A Finnish lawmaker committed suicide on Tuesday inside the Parliament building, according to local media reports.
"A person has died in Parliament, in what appears to be a suicide by a member of parliament," Finnish daily Iltalehti reported.
Aaro Toivonen, head of the parliament's security department, confirmed the death of one person inside the parliament premises, but did not provide many details.
"A death occurred in the morning. Emergency medical services, rescue units and police authorities were notified of the scene via the emergency center," he said.
Toivonen did not deny the information when asked by Finnish broadcaster Yle whether the case involved a suicide, but added that he could not comment on the exact location of the death within Parliament or whether a member of parliament or a parliament employee was involved.
"This is a very unfortunate and sad case," Toivonen said.
Police also confirmed that the case does not involve any crime and that several patrol units and emergency medical services are currently at the scene.
