Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov praised Donald Trump but rebuked European leaders.
In an interview with state television channel Rossiya 24, Lavrov said the atmosphere at Trump's meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska was "very good."
"It was clear that the leader of the United States and his team, first and foremost, sincerely want to achieve an outcome that will be long-term, sustainable and credible," he added.
Trump said yesterday in talks that a ceasefire is not necessary and that a peace deal can be reached while Russia and Ukraine are at war - a position supported by Vladimir Putin but not by Europe.
Lavrov said that European leaders "insisted in any case only on a ceasefire and that after that they will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine."
