As soon as the US gave the green light to sell Turkey 40 F-16 fighter jets and modernize 79 others, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has started provocations against Greece.
Speaking before his party's candidates for the municipal elections in Izmir, the Turkish president said that "our war did not end by throwing the enemy into the sea of Izmir"!
" The Marmara and Aegean regions are the regions where the first foundations of our thousand-year history were laid ," the Turkish president added.
Erdogan refrained from inflammatory rhetoric towards Greece, since the US could not give the "yes" in Congress to the sale of fighter jets, if he continued with the provocations against Athens.
However, Greek diplomats estimate that the high tones used by Erdogan are also related to the internal processes in Turkey, since the opposition accuses Erdogan that Turkey, as a co-producer of the F-35, within a few years got out of the program for the 5th generation fighter -s to be sent to Athens and is now celebrating the purchase of f-16s.
As reported by the US, Turkey requested the purchase of 40 new F-16 aircraft and the modernization of 79 existing F-16 aircraft to the Viper level.
