In a tweet on Sunday, Mr. McCarthy wrote that U.S. Attorney David Weiss, appointed by former President Donald Trump to oversee the investigation, must answer questions about allegations made by a whistleblower that the Justice Department interfered. in this case, with the intention of protecting Mr. Biden's son.
" If the whistleblower's allegations are true, this will be an important part of a larger investigation aimed at impeaching Merrick Garland on charges of political use of the Justice Department," Mr. McCarthy wrote .
According to court documents filed last week, Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty to two counts of willful evasion of income taxes.
Mr. Garland has denied claims by the whistleblower, an IRS employee, that Mr. Weiss was prevented by the Justice Department from conducting a more aggressive investigation of the president's son.
