European Council President Antonio Costa announced today that he has decided to call an extraordinary meeting on the Greenland issue in the coming days.
In a post on social media, Antonio Costa says that this comes given the importance of recent developments and with the aim of further coordination.
He also revealed Europe's commitments on six key points following talks with member states.
1-Unity on the principles of international law, territorial integrity and national sovereignty;
2-Unite in support and solidarity with Denmark and Greenland;
3-Recognizing the common transatlantic interest in peace and security in the Arctic, particularly working through NATO;
4-Common assessment that tariffs would damage transatlantic relations and are incompatible with the EU-US trade agreement;
5- Willingness to defend oneself against any form of coercion;
6- Willingness to continue constructive engagement with the US on all issues of common interest.
We recall that several EU countries have opposed Trump's plan to annex Greenland, while the latter has imposed a 10 percent trade tariff on these countries.
