US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that the US is in favorable conditions for Greenland, while emphasizing that further discussions begin "today".
He stressed that the talks will remain discreet to avoid what Rubio called a media circus. Rubio expressed optimism about the outcome of these talks, while emphasizing that the European side will also remain satisfied.
"I think we have a process that will lead us to a good outcome for everyone. Even as I speak to you now, there will be some meetings at a technical level between us and our partners in Greenland and Denmark on this issue. I think we will achieve something positive. We will start this process in a very professional and straightforward manner. It starts today and it will be an orderly process.
"We're going to try to do it in a way that's not like a media circus every time these conversations happen, because we think that creates more flexibility on both sides to achieve a positive outcome. I think we're going to do it. We have a little bit of work to do, but I think we're going to get to a good point, and I think you're going to hear the same thing from our colleagues in Europe very soon," he told lawmakers on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
