US President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on a military intervention against Iran, while the diplomatic channel remains open, Axios reports, citing sources from the White House.
Trump has called on Tehran to reach a “deal as soon as possible” on its nuclear program, warning that any future US strike would be “much more severe” than the last attack. Through an order in recent days, the president has significantly reinforced the US military presence in the region, increasing tension in Iran, Israel and other Middle Eastern countries.
Despite this, senior US officials stress that Trump has not yet made a decision on an attack, and diplomacy remains a real option. “We are ready to negotiate if Iran is interested in talks,” a White House official said.
In a significant development, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have stated that they will not allow the US to use their airspace for attacks on Iran, making the scenario of a large-scale military operation difficult.
On the other hand, Iran has displayed a dual stance, expressing readiness for dialogue, but also determination in the face of threats. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran has not requested the start of negotiations and that “diplomacy under the threat of force cannot be effective”. Meanwhile, in a statement on the X network, the Iranian Mission to the UN stressed that Iran is open to dialogue on the basis of mutual respect, but will defend itself and respond as never before if attacked.
There are currently no direct negotiations between the US and Iran, but several countries in the region, such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar, are playing an informal mediating role, transmitting messages between the parties. The scene remains tense, with a military confrontation not ruled out, but neither is a turn towards dialogue yet to be concluded.
