In January 2016, Jeffrey Epstein celebrated his 63rd birthday with congratulatory letters from some of his closest friends, including former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, media mogul Mortimer Zuckerman and director Woody Allen. The letters, which were recently made public, reveal details of the lavish dinners regularly hosted at his 7-story Manhattan mansion, a center of influence for the rich and powerful.
Ehud Barak and his wife described Epstein as a man of “boundless curiosity,” while Zuckerman mentioned foods that supposedly enhanced Epstein’s sexual performance. Woody Allen compared the dinners to scenes from Dracula’s castle, lending a mysterious tone to the mansion.
After Epstein's death in 2019, questions about the source of his wealth and his connections to prominent figures remain unresolved. His mansion, purchased by billionaire Les Wexner, served as a meeting place for academics, politicians and businessmen. Published photos show shocking details of the interior, including a rope bridal sculpture, a copy of the novel "Lolita" and a map of Israel signed by Barak.
A similar album of letters for Epstein's 50th birthday contained greetings from Donald Trump and Bill Clinton. The White House initially promised transparency about the federal investigation, but the Trump administration backed down, drawing a sharp reaction from the right. The Justice Department held a meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell, a close associate of Epstein, who is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking.
Her transfer to a lower-security prison has fueled speculation about a possible deal with former President Trump. The House Oversight Committee has asked the Justice Department to turn over all documents related to Epstein by August 19 and has subpoenaed several senior US political figures, adding to the pressure to uncover the truth about Epstein's network.
