MEPs demand the imposition of sanctions against Dodik

The main members of the European Parliament dealing with the Western Balkans region have requested that sanctions be imposed on the leader of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, due to his secessionist actions that harm the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The head of the Commission for foreign policy, David McAllister, the rapporteur for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Paulo Rangel and the head of the delegation for Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romeo Franz, through a joint statement, have requested urgent measures from the EU against Milorad Dodik.

"We can no longer tolerate the secessionists and their supporters to systematically endanger Bosnia and Herzegovina," their statement reads.

They condemn the decision of the Assembly of the Serbian entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina not to accept the decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH, which decision they consider a direct attack on the Constitutional order and the Dayton agreement.

"In light of the recent provocations by President Dodik and other leading officials of Republika Srpska, additional actions by the European Union are urgently needed. The European Parliament has repeatedly asked the Council to move from verbal statements to specific actions against those who deliberately endanger the constitutional order and the integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is high time for the EU and its member countries to finally impose sanctions on Milorad Dodik, who is already sanctioned by the USA and Great Britain," the statement said .

They pointed out that the credibility of the European Union is in question and the EU can no longer just be satisfied with verbal statements in support of the actions of the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but must actively take measures./REL
