Ukraine's "Ghost" breaks world record, sniper eliminates Russian

The Ukrainian army’s “Pryvyd” (Ghost) sniper unit has recorded a historic moment on the battlefield; killing two Russian soldiers from a distance of 4,000 meters. According to military media in Kiev, the shooting took place on August 14, 2025 in the Pokrovsk sector, in an area where Russian forces have amassed over 110,000 troops and breached Ukrainian defense lines.

The strike was carried out with the Alligator rifle, a giant 14.5 mm weapon manufactured in Kharkiv, which in this case was used as a sniper with the help of drones and artificial intelligence. Military journalist Yuri Butusov published a video of the moment, explaining that “the bullet went through the window where the invaders were standing,” making the accuracy of the hit even more incredible. This is now the longest confirmed record in the world, surpassing the previous one of 3,800 meters, also achieved by a Ukrainian sniper of the Security Service (SBU).

The Alligator was originally designed as an anti-materiel rifle to destroy military equipment, not personnel; but experience on the Ukrainian front has shown unexpected capabilities. According to Defense Express, the weapon has a rate of fire of nearly 1,000 meters per second and a potential range of up to 7 kilometers, although accuracy is limited by weather conditions and distance.

The record comes at a critical moment for Kiev; as Russian troops intensify their attacks in the Donbas, the Ukrainian military is struggling to maintain morale and demonstrate technological superiority against a numerically superior enemy. Whether Ukrainian snipers have already reached the limits of the impossible remains to be seen how this will affect the ongoing battle in Pokrovsk and beyond.
