Will Trump attack or not? All eyes on the American president...
US President Donald Trump has decided to be extremely discreet regarding the possibility of involvement in war with Iran.
After the warnings the day before, today he made a strategic move by declaring to journalists that "he may attack them, he may not."
According to British media, there is an information blackout on what Trump will really do and it seems that this is his strategy. Will we have a surprise attack? Or is Trump playing the bluff?
The BBC writes that the American president has also kept the British in the dark about information, although in the event of an attack he would have to use their bases in Cyprus and Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
According to the BBC, the US would have to inform its ally before launching offensive operations from British bases.
It is currently believed that the American bombers are located in Diego Garcia, a base where the US Air Force regularly sends aircraft.
A British source says that, in their assessment, for Washington, "all options are on the table" regarding Trump's next steps regarding Iran. However, the source emphasizes that there is still no complete clarity on the American plan.
The United States has sent additional military reinforcements to Europe and the Middle East region, including aerial refueling tankers, fighter jets and an additional aircraft carrier. The USS Nimitz will join the USS Carl Vinson already in the Persian Gulf.
The British source describes the additional US forces as a defensive measure, to protect US bases, personnel and interests in the region.
Britain has also increased its military presence at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, sending six more Typhoon fighter jets to join the eight already stationed at the base.
These additional aircraft will enable the UK to continuously monitor its military bases. The US has used RAF Akrotiri in previous military operations. /Pamphlet
