Three people were injured in a train accident in Cartagena, Spain, today, January 22, marking the third rail incident in the country in less than a week.
According to foreign media, a passenger train on the Cartagena - Los Nietos line collided with a crane in the Alumbres area, in the Murcia region. At least three passengers suffered minor injuries, while authorities have not yet released a final official balance sheet.
The accident occurred around 12:00, on the railway segment between Alumbres and La Unión, causing panic among passengers and temporary disruption of traffic.
The incident comes just days after two serious rail accidents in Spain. On Sunday night, a train derailed and collided with another, killing 43 passengers. Just two days later, a retaining wall collapsed on a regional train, causing it to derail and killing the driver.
According to local media, residents of the Alumbres area had long warned of the danger on this part of the railway line, where signaling and announcements about the arrival of trains are often lacking.
Spanish authorities have launched investigations to uncover the causes of today's accident, while rail transport safety has become a worrying issue in the country.
