European countries are considering creating an international mission to ensure the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy routes, the Wall Street Journal reported.

According to US media, the plan envisages the formation of a broad coalition involving France, Germany and the United Kingdom, with the aim of restoring safe maritime movement after the end of the conflict in the region. As part of this initiative, the deployment of mine clearance ships and other military equipment is expected.

A key element of the plan is that the mission will not involve the United States, Israel or Iran. French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that it is an international protection mission that will not involve parties directly involved in the conflict.

European diplomats quoted in the report emphasize that European naval forces will not operate under American command, signaling a more independent European approach to this strategic issue.

The aim of the initiative is to restore the confidence of shipping companies to use the Strait of Hormuz again after the end of hostilities, a process that officials say could take time.

Germany is expected to play a significant role in the mission. According to the report, a senior German official has confirmed that Berlin is considering participating, a step that would mark a change from its previously more reserved stance towards military commitments.

Germany's involvement would significantly strengthen the operation, as the country has significant financial resources and military capabilities to carry out such a mission. An official decision from Berlin could come soon.

Meanwhile, China and India have been invited to participate in this initiative, but it is not yet clear whether they will commit, according to a French official.

The initiative takes place in a context of high geopolitical tensions and aims to secure one of the main arteries of global energy supply.
