French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he had a conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, where he stressed the need to reduce tensions in the region.
According to Macron's statement, he encouraged his Iranian counterpart to seize the opportunity created by the talks launched in Islamabad to pave the way towards a sustainable de-escalation.
"I urged him to seize the opportunity offered by the talks launched in Islamabad to pave the way for a lasting reduction in tensions," Macron said.
The French president also stressed the importance of full respect for the ceasefire, including the situation in Lebanon.
In this context, Macron reiterated France's support for the Lebanese authorities, describing them as the only legitimate structures for exercising state sovereignty and for decision-making on the country's future.
"France fully supports the actions of the Lebanese authorities, which are the only ones legitimate to exercise the sovereignty of the state and decide on the fate of Lebanon," he added.
