The US launches operations in the Strait of Hormuz to clear mines and guarantee freedom of navigation, amid tensions and contradictory statements from Iran.

Two American destroyers have passed the strategic Strait of Hormuz, at a critical moment when negotiations between the United States and Iran have begun in Islamabad.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the destroyers USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy, which have made the passage as part of an operation to clear mines and ensure the security of the sea corridor. In a statement on the X network, CENTCOM stressed that the mission aims to ensure that the sea route is clear of possible mines laid by Iran.

CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper said: " Today we have begun the process of creating a new passage and will soon share this secure route with the maritime industry to encourage the free flow of commerce ."

This development comes at a time when tensions in the region remain high and the Strait of Hormuz is considered a key point for global energy trade, as a large portion of the world's oil exports pass through it.

Meanwhile, Iranian sources have reported a different version of events. According to Iranian state television, Iran warned a US warship that it would be attacked within 30 minutes if it passed through the strait. A senior Iranian military official said that the ship withdrew after this warning, without giving further details on its location or specific developments.

The discrepancies in the statements are obvious. Earlier, the American portal Axios reported that several US Navy ships had passed through the Strait of Hormuz in an operation that was not coordinated with Iran. Former President Donald Trump appeared to confirm this information, stating that the US military had launched operations to “clean up” the strait.

On the other hand, Iranian authorities have denied that any American ship has passed through the area, emphasizing that the information published by American media does not match the reality on the ground.

These developments occur at a delicate diplomatic moment, with the start of talks between Washington and Tehran in Pakistan, where the parties aim to find a solution to the conflict and reduce tensions in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical point not only for regional security but also for the global economy. Any military move in this area is immediately reflected in international energy markets and global supply chains, making the current situation a significant test of international stability.
