Since that day, the secret services have built a new psychological profile of Yahia Sinwar, the head of Hamas in Gaza. They understand that something has changed in the boss's mind, it is not about external threats, about the war with Israel, about the last 11 days of the conflict in May 2021. It is the internal politics, as always, that undermines the strategies in a terrorist organization. Sinwar did the calculations with the fingers of one hand: four run-offs before he was re-elected head of the movement, the opponent who did not surrender is part of the founders, considered more extremist, tougher than him. So the Shin Bet psychologists are reviewing the file: they are analyzing the gestures and behaviors of the man that until that moment they believed they could predict.
The way he walks the streets – a source commented to the Haaretz newspaper after the ceasefire two years ago – the fact that he agrees to immerse himself among people, to let himself be touched. They are all new elements. He is creating his own personal myth, he speaks of himself as God's chosen one: "he is the one who must fight for Jerusalem on behalf of the Muslims". The brutal fire of the man who in these 35 days of war is the number one wanted, the trophy that the army wants to show the Israelis, was evident in the interrogation of the first detainees. Now - as intelligence claims - he is hiding in a bunker near Shifa hospital in Gaza City.
He has never hidden that the need to preserve the purity of fundamentalist ideology was part of his mission, ever since he pushed the wheelchair of Sheikh Ahmed Jasin, the religious inspirer of terrorist violence. In 1989 Sinwar was convicted by the Israelis of killing four Palestinians considered traitors who were passing information to the enemy. He met Jas several times after the shah was released in a prisoner exchange in 1985: "We discussed moral weakness, actions against Islam, together we decided to recruit people who would denounce collaborators and any action that was against Muslim rules."
Sinwar is the founder of Hamas' security and intelligence service called Majd, which is responsible for counterintelligence warfare with Israel. He is on the US terror list and is considered the second most powerful figure in Hamas. The Israeli military says he is the 'dead man walking' after Hamas attacked Israel. But to this day he has survived and is even a threat to Israel. He is known as the peron who eliminated the spies: “We took Ramsi, accused of selling us, to a desert place outside Khan Younis, dug a grave, covered him with a shroud and buried him.
