Greece 'paralyzed' by protests, Mitsotakis offers 150 million euros in
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced in parliament that he will provide a 150 million euro package for farmers, while other relief measures will be announced in the event of a meeting between the government and a representative body of protesters.

The Greek government will distribute the fund to farmers at the start of the new year 2026, arguing it as a missed profit for producers. Mitsotakis admitted that the government has been late in its reaction to stabilize the situation and also said that several other measures will be announced as part of the relief for farmers who have been protesting for about 3 weeks.

CNN Greece reports that the government is aiming for a face-to-face meeting between Mitsotakis and farmers' representatives, who are expected to be proposed other relief mechanisms for electricity and fuel prices that will be reflected directly at the gas stations' pumps.

The head of the Greek executive, meanwhile, ruled out merging the subsidy agency (OPEKEPE) with another (AADE) that would offer more transparency, especially after the subsidy scandal that led to payment delays and, as a result, farmer protests.

The latter have launched a campaign of blockades of the road network, customs and ports that have plunged the country into chaos, threatening to extend it even during the holidays if the demands they sent to the executive a few days ago are not met.
