Banning access to social media by minors under the age of 15, as well as blocking minors under the age of 18 from browsing online betting platforms and selling tobacco products, is foreseen in the plan that the Greek government is recently preparing.
As government sources point out to "Protothema", Greece will be ready by the end of October to become the first European country to impose restrictions on the use of social networks by minors in order to protect them.
Earlier, it was Australia that made the decision to ban access to social networks by minors under the age of 16 (from October 10) and online dating platforms in order to protect them from logarithmic manipulation and sexual harassment.
And now the EU is preparing something similar.
With Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stating that “France, Spain, Greece, Denmark and Italy are testing the Commission’s plan to implement age verification in their national apps,” Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis confirmed the country’s participation in the program.
He stated, among other things, that "we are considering banning the use of social media from the age of 16 and under, as is done in Australia."
