Israel announced that 10 soldiers were killed on Wednesday after being ambushed by members of Hamas.
Nine of those killed, including a battalion commander and colonel, were fighting in Shejaiya, east of Gaza City.
It is learned that they fell victim to a reception by the militant group. A total of 115 soldiers have been killed so far.
Benny Gantz, a member of the Israeli War Cabinet who is also a military chief of staff, said the war exacts a heavy, painful and difficult price.
The IDF said it had arrested hundreds of suspects, searched over 400 buildings, confiscated weapons and ammunition and destroyed "terrorist infrastructure".
The Israeli army also announced that six laboratories used for the production of explosives were destroyed, along with several underground tunnels.
While Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen referred to the meeting of the Security Council, he said that Israel is now even more isolated after the vote at the UN, where the majority of countries were in favor of the ceasefire, except for the USA, which vetoed and Britain, which abstained.
"A ceasefire at this stage is a gift to the terrorist organization Hamas, and will allow it to come back and threaten the people of Israel," Cohen said.
The United States has repeatedly called on Israel to take greater measures to spare civilians, despite blocking an international call for a ceasefire and urgently sending ammunition to its close ally. /BBC
