Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reacted after Iran-backed Hezbollah launched hundreds of rockets and drones into Israel in retaliation for the killing of a top commander.
Netanyahu said that they will retaliate against anyone who tries to harm them.
"We are determined to do everything possible to protect our country, return northerners safely to their homes, and continue to respect one simple rule: Anyone who harms us, we damage it," he said in a statement.
This morning, Hezbollah launched an attack on Israel to avenge the death of a top commander. In return, Israeli jets have struck targets in Lebanon, an action they have called an "act of self-defense."
Warning sirens sounded in northern Israel and explosions were heard as the army's Iron Dome air defense system shot down rockets from southern Lebanon.
Flights at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport were temporarily suspended.
Hezbollah has released a statement saying it has completed the "first phase" of its attack, after it fired 320 Katyusha rockets and hit 11 Israeli military facilities.
The escalation was predicted according to an Israeli intelligence assessment by the country's most closely connected security correspondents.
