The European Union is considering possible solutions in case the 27 countries do not unanimously approve the aid package for Ukraine.
An issue that was not resolved at the EU Summit in early December due to Hungary's veto. But according to the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen, there is an urgent need to resolve the aid to Ukraine.
During a press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, who took over the presidency, Von del Leyen noted that the Commission will present other possible solutions, although the priority remains the agreement between the 27 countries.
"The priority is an agreement between the 27. But of course we have to prepare for the other operational options that we are preparing. The Commission will present the European Council with operational solutions to ensure that an agreement is reached on the instrument for Ukraine," underlined Von der Leyen.
Belgium will then have the main task of transforming the political agreement on the instrument through the Council and Parliament as soon as possible.
"We must complete the budget review during the Belgian presidency and this will provide us with the means to implement many of the political priorities we have identified and on which we have made progress, for example migration," the EC president underlined. The EU and the United States have not yet resolved the impasse in the American Congress, while Russia has intensified its military offensive in Ukraine.
