The United Arab Emirates, which neighbors Iran and hosts US troops at a base in Abu Dhabi, has stressed the need for immediate de-escalation to avoid serious consequences and steer the region away from retreating into deeper instability.
A statement from its foreign ministry called on countries to intensify efforts to find a "comprehensive solution" to protect the region.
This comes after Iran threatened to retaliate against the US for the attack on its nuclear facilities overnight. The foreign ministry statement also said it was important to draw “lessons from the region’s historical experiences and past conflicts” to avoid escalation.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates' nuclear regulator issued a statement to "assure the public" that relevant national authorities are closely monitoring developments related to nuclear facilities in Iran, the UAE's state news agency WAM said.
The regulator said its monitoring had confirmed that there were no impacts in the UAE resulting from the attack. It also urged the public to rely on official sources for information and avoid spreading rumors and unverified news.
