Former President Donald Trump fell to the ground Saturday during a rally in Pennsylvania after being shot.
Blood could be seen on his face, after the bullet had touched his right ear, but the cases when presidents and former presidents of the USA fall prey to attacks are not rare.
Many presidents and former presidents and presidential candidates have been attacked in US history, according to a CNN report.
President Andrew Jackson: In the pre-Civil War era, he was shot while attending a funeral at the Capitol. The attacker fired twice, but the weapon missed.
President Theodore Roosevelt: Like Trump, he was trying to get his old job back during the campaign of 1912. He was shot on his way to a speech in Milwaukee.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt: He was president-elect when an assassin shot him in Miami in 1933. The gunman, Guiseppe Zangara, failed to kill Roosevelt but did kill Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak.
President Harry Truman: He assumed the presidency after Roosevelt died and was shot in front of the White House by Puerto Rican nationalists in 1950.
Alabama Governor George Wallace: The segregationist ran for president for a third time in 1972 and was shot after a campaign event outside Washington, DC. The shots left him paralyzed from the waist down.
President Gerald Ford: He faced two consecutive assassination attempts in 1975.
President Ronald Reagan: He was shot in 1981 outside the Hilton in Washington, DC, after giving a speech. His press secretary, James Brady, was more seriously injured than Reagan and later became a gun control activist.
President Barack Obama: An Idaho man was charged with trying to kill Obama when he opened fire on the White House in 2011.
Four presidents – Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, William McKinley and John F. Kennedy – have been assassinated.
