A 32-year-old man from Bangladesh was arrested last night as the suspected killer of a tourist from Poland on the Greek island of Kos, local media reported today.
Greek media published footage of the suspect, who has lived in Kos for 11 years, seen leaving his home with the victim, as police say they have enough evidence to charge the man with the young woman's death.
The man was arrested after several hours of questioning in the presence of the lawyer, while earlier he was accused of taking the deceased hostage. He continues to deny murder.
The body of 27-year-old Anastasja Rubinska was found on June 18, as the first examinations showed that she had died from drowning.
The young woman was from Wroclaw in southwest Poland, where she worked in a hotel.
Yesterday, the country's chief prosecutor sent two investigators to Greece to participate in the investigation.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old friend of the victim testified yesterday that the suspect tried to rape her shortly after killing Anastasia Rubinska.
The harrowing testimony was published by the local Mega network, where the victim said he had managed to escape the worst.
After the disappearance of the 27-year-old, the nightmare began to arise for the 30-year-old Maria, who believes that this happened a few meters away from the place where her acquaintance was killed.
"It's the same place, I shudder when I think about it because I know what he did to her, just as he tried to do to me at home," says Maria's testimony.
The suspect is reported to have changed his version of events several times, claiming that he did not have sexual intercourse against her will with the deceased.
He has been placed in custody while investigations continue.
