
After the USA, Germany has also closed the door to Ukraine's membership in NATO.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has stated today that Ukraine's membership in NATO cannot be discussed as long as the war in that country continues.
Speaking in the German parliament this morning, Scholz said he is "absolutely convinced that Sweden should sit at the summit table as a new ally together with Finland" when NATO leaders meet in Vilnius next month. Speaking in the German parliament this morning, Scholz said he is "absolutely convinced that Sweden should sit at the summit table as a new ally together with Finland" when NATO leaders meet in Vilnius next month.
He told German representatives that he is urging re-elected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to drop his objections to Sweden joining the alliance, which all other members agreed to at last year's summit in Madrid.
"Ukraine's membership in NATO, however, is not a matter of how long the aggression against that country lasts", stressed Scholz.
