The US Coast Guard has confirmed that the remains found at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean belong to the "Titan" submarine, which has been declared missing since Sunday.
In an emergency press conference, Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard, who is leading the search for the Titan, said that the five crew members are now officially dead, as he offered his condolences to their families.
Admiral Mauger said the underwater robots that found the wreckage of the submarine will remain at the scene to gather information. He added that work is still being done to determine the exact time and cause of the disaster.
As for the previous phase of the search, where some noises and bangs were heard in the underwater search area, the Admiral clarified that they may have been related to the debris that was found on the seabed.
The US Coast Guard said the submarine was involved in an explosion, after sonar buoys detected the "catastrophic event" in the 72 hours it was in the water.
Experts say the wreckage of the Titan submarine was found more than 200 meters from the bow of the Titanic.
While earlier, the company of the lost submarine, "Oceangate", issued a statement to the media announcing that the passengers of the "Titan" submarine were officially declared dead.
In its statement, the company expresses its condolences to the families of the 5 members who were on board. She asked the media to respect the families' privacy and thanked rescue groups for their tireless work.
