A local official has told the state news agency IRNA that 40 people were killed in an Israeli attack on a girls' elementary school in Iran's southern Minab county in Hormozgan province on February 28.
Governor Mohammad Radmehr said 48 others were injured and the death toll from the attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls' school was rising.
The BBC has not been able to independently verify this.
Separately, there is an "almost total" internet outage in Iran, and there has been a previous cyberattack.
