Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said that the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh could face devastation similar to that of the city of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. The statement was reported by AFP.
"Very soon, Dahiyeh will resemble Khan Younis," said Smotrich, referring to the Palestinian city that has suffered heavy damage from Israeli bombing during the war with Hamas.
His comments come after the Israeli military called on residents of several areas in the southern suburbs of Beirut to evacuate. Dahiyeh is considered a stronghold of Hezbollah, an organization that Israel accuses of constant attacks from Lebanese territory.
In a video statement during a visit to Israel's northern border, Smotrich said Hezbollah would face severe consequences.
"Hezbollah made a mistake and will pay a heavy price. We are hitting the head of the octopus in Iran and at the same time we will cut off Hezbollah's arm," he declared.
The statements reflect rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah on the northern border, while the potential escalation of the conflict remains linked to military developments and political decisions in the region.
