"He's not Winston Churchill"/ Starmer explains how relations with
Donald Trump and Keir Starmer

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom continues to work, despite recent criticism from former US President Donald Trump.

Responding to questions about whether this relationship has been "destroyed", following Trump's comments that Starmer "is not Winston Churchill", the British prime minister stressed the ongoing cooperation between the two countries.

"The special relationship is in place now. We are working with the Americans from our own bases ," Starmer said.

He added that American and British forces cooperate in the region to protect personnel and shared interests at bases where they operate together.

"We also share intelligence 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in the usual way. That's the special relationship," he said.

Starmer stressed that each country makes its own decisions based on national interests.

"It is up to Trump to make decisions that he considers to be in the national interest of the United States. Whereas it is up to me, as British prime minister, to make decisions that I consider to be in the best interests of the United Kingdom," he said, adding that "there is nothing controversial about that."

According to Starmer, the last time he spoke to Donald Trump was on Saturday evening.
