Cambodia and Thailand reach ceasefire agreement!
Thailand and Cambodia have reached an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, effective at midnight on July 28, 2025, local time. The agreement was announced by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim after intensive mediated talks in Kuala Lumpur, attended by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's acting Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai.

This agreement ends the fierce border clashes that erupted on July 24 and left at least 35 dead and over 200,000 displaced on both sides.

The recent clashes between Thailand and Cambodia are rooted in a long-standing territorial dispute over the border area near the ancient temple of Preah Vihear, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was recognized by Cambodia by the International Court of Justice in 1962 and 2013.

Tensions flared again on 28 May 2025, when a Cambodian soldier was killed, and escalated further after a landmine explosion injured five Thai soldiers. Since Thursday, 24 July, heavy fighting with artillery, rockets and air strikes by Thai F-16 jets has caused numerous casualties, including 15 killed in Thailand (one soldier) and 20 in Cambodia (including five soldiers).
