US President Donald Trump has reacted to the attacks in Venezuela by saying that they were carried out by the US, while emphasizing that "Maduro and his wife have been captured and taken out of the country."
He confirmed international media claims that the United States was responsible for the attack and announced that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife had been captured by US forces and taken out of the country.
Meanwhile, Russia and Iran condemned Saturday's attacks on Venezuela, after Caracas accused the United States of being behind the explosions that rocked the capital.
According to the French Press Agency (AFP), the Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement that it "strongly condemns the US military attack on Venezuela and the flagrant violation of the country's national sovereignty and territorial integrity."
Iran's statement was published before Donald Trump's post on Truth Social, which confirmed that the US had carried out "a large-scale attack" on Venezuela.
In his post, Trump wrote that the action was successful.
"The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale attack against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolás Maduro, who, along with his wife, has been captured and taken out of the country. This operation was conducted in cooperation with U.S. law enforcement. More details to follow. A press conference will be held at Mar-a-Lago today at 11:00 a.m. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump wrote.
This reaction by Trump, seen as a direct confirmation of the operation, comes at a very tense moment in the region, as the political crisis and military tensions in Venezuela have increased significantly.
The US president's post emphasizes that the operation was carried out in cooperation with US law enforcement and signals that the United States is taking an active role in recent developments in the Latin American country.
