The Casamonica mafia clan operating in Rome has been blamed for a black coffin that was left in front of the house of an anti-mafia activist 2 days ago.
The activist, Tiziana Ronzio, is president of the anti-mafia group Toripiubella, named after the Tor Bella Monaca neighborhood where the Casamonica family's villas were located until they were confiscated in 2018 and 2019.
Police found precious decorations, including life-size porcelain tigers used to hide money, diamond-encrusted swimming pools and gilded mirror ceilings in many of the rooms. Police also found and seized several tons of drugs, heroin and cocaine.
In 2022, two members of the family were convicted of attempting to traffic seven tons of cocaine from Colombia.
The coffin was found on Sunday outside Ronzio's residence in Rome in the Tor Bella Monaca neighborhood.
Ronzio said she had seen the casket and that people had sent her pictures of it, but she didn't realize it was a threat.
While she called the threat "stupid" and said that she would not stop her work.
"I'm not afraid, I'm moving forward. These are stupid gestures that make us even more angry and we want to fight ," Ronzio told local media.
Meanwhile, Rome police told CNN that the coffin is being examined for fingerprints.
