"The Security Council is powerless", the ambassador of Ukraine to the

Ukraine's ambassador to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya, has stated that Ukraine is already a focal point of the Security Council, since February of last year.

Speaking on the Real Story show, Ambassador Kyslytsya said that the problem with the Security Council is that it does not have the power to compel aggressors.

"It is true that Ukraine is the most important agenda item in the Security Council. And more and more, since the evening of February 23 last year. As you know the Security Council cannot react with its mandate when it comes to early prevention and stopping the war in Ukraine. This is mainly because the Russian Federation has been allowed to exercise the Soviet veto, but not only. If we imagine a situation where Russia is stripped of the right to veto decision-making and we have the opportunity to adopt decisions, say, with a request to immediately stop the war and withdraw Russian armed forces from Ukraine. Decisions are approved and sent immediately to Putin in the Kremlin. He reads the decision, do you think he will immediately pick up the government phone and tell the defense minister to back off? No, it won't happen. The problem with the Security Council is that it does not have the power to compel aggressors. And in the specific case, the aggressor who sits on the chair with the members of the government to implement the decisions", he said while mainly evaluating Albania's leadership in the security council meeting.

" To give credit to Albania, Albania is very strong. Since the beginning. Your Prime Minister is a very strong person, not only in terms of appearance but also the integrity of his position. Many of us enjoyed how he handled the trembling Nebenzya. If you go back and see Nebenzya's rendering of the word, it was shaking in the first sense of the word. He wasn't sure what he was saying. It was done very well, but not conventionally, because this was also the point where Nebenzya was learning. He said that your prime minister should stay strictly within the framework of his role as president of the Security Council.

Zelensky's patience comes from the fact that it is not his first time, as he has participated in the Security Council debate via video link before. But it is true that it was the first time he attended the meeting in person. I think he appreciates Albania's dedication in dealing with the situation, but so do many presidents and world leaders in this room.

There is something, I always say that you should not make the argument that someone is small and someone is very powerful. Usually, especially in the general assembly, everyone is equal. Tuvalu has the same voting weight as Australia. Liechtenstein has the same vote as Canada.

It is true, however, that within the Security Council there is an institutionalized segregation where we have 5 permanent members. We have Russia sitting in the chair of the Soviet headquarters. This is a tight-knit club of countries that tend to decide a lot between each other before opening discourses within the Security Council and the wider membership of the council.

I am sure that Albania is doing a very good job. Albania's strong point is that it is showing a high level of integrity and unwavering position and this is very important.

Continuity and stability of positioning is as important as correct positioning. I think Albania is doing a pretty good job. The way Albania behaves in the Security Council, I'm sure it sends strong messages to other countries inside and outside Europe ", he emphasized.
