Simone Del Vecchio, a young Italian, has been in the hospital for 8 months, after removing 20 teeth at once in a dental clinic in Tirana.
His mother Anna confessed that she found her son lying on the ground and unconscious, while earlier he had suffered a cardiac arrest.
According to her, on March 13 of this year, Simone entered a clinic in Albania for a dental operation and ended up in the hospital bed, where she has been for 8 months.
She told Corriere della Sera that he now has a very weak immunity and weighs 30 kilograms less after the grueling ordeal that he went through from March until now. "Today he is no longer what he was. He is skin and bones, thirty kilos lighter," she said.
Anna accompanied her son to Tirana as she wanted to replace all the teeth of both arches with a saving of 50% compared to the same operation in Italy.
"Shortly before the operation, he had sent some of his graphic projects to national record companies and was called for an interview by the staff of a well-known singer. "To prepare for the meeting, he had lost weight, overhauled his wardrobe and wanted perfect teeth, because he had lost two of them," she says.
The mother had undergone a similar operation a few years ago, in Albania.
"When I was there, I had seen some people who were not well after the treatment: I saw that they had a drop in blood pressure and sickness without any post-operative help,” she said. For this reason she had objected to her son's trip, but Simone had not listened.
"Before the operation we ate a pizza, because no one told us that it had to be done on an empty stomach. As soon as we arrived, we paid half of the amount, 5 thousand euros. He entered the operating room and I waited outside," the woman recalls.
"Among the doctors there was a nervousness, so much so that one of them left the room nervously, violently throwing his surgical gloves on the floor. I didn't have the courage to approach and I waited for Simone to come out," she said.
Simone's mother, 37 years old, says that when the boy came out of the operating room he was very nervous and in pain.
"We went back to the room in the same clinic, he took a shower, put on his pajamas and started watching TV. He was thirsty and went to get a bottle of water, still inside the clinic, but never returned. I found him lying on the ground, unconscious, with a group of people around him. He had his first cardiac arrest," she says in her confession.
"Immediately they wanted me to believe that Simone already had some heart problems. However, he had always been fine. No test had highlighted this; the day before he had walked eleven floors with shopping bags. From that day Simone was in a medically induced coma until May 1," she said.
Now Simone is in the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo in Foggia, waiting for a new operation for a tracheal stenosis.
To take care of her son, the mother has rented a room for 500 euros per month: "They tell us that it is an epileptic seizure or a neurovegetative seizure and that they need to find the right cure and therapy", she explains.
