Russian officials have threatened the West with a "tough" response if frozen Russian assets are confiscated.
The spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova added that Russia will never give up the territories seized from Ukraine in exchange for the return of frozen assets.
"Our homeland is not for sale. All Russian assets must remain intact because otherwise there will be a severe response to the Western thieves. Many in the West have already realized this. Unfortunately, not all", writes Zakharova in a post on the Telegram social network.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added that there was plenty of Western money that could be targeted in Moscow's countermeasures.
