He is seen as a possible successor to his father, brutal Chechen dictator Ramzan Kadyrov. But now, 18-year-old Adam Kadyrov is reportedly in hospital with serious injuries. After a car accident, his condition is "serious," according to Radio Free Europe, citing anonymous sources.
His father, Ramzan Kadyrov, is also in critical condition. The Chechen dictator is said to be on dialysis due to kidney failure, while Ukrainian intelligence reports that he is on the verge of death.
The Kremlin is reportedly already desperately searching for a successor to Putin's aide.
It is difficult to obtain reliable information about the Kadyrov family. Ramzan Kadyrov rules the country with extreme brutality. His absolute loyalty lies with Vladimir Putin, who in turn tolerates the parallel state of Chechnya (population 1.5 million) within the Russian Federation. Kadyrov holds absolute power, commands a private army and lives an extravagant lifestyle. He has at least 14 children, the exact number is unknown.
But it seems to be equally difficult to get reliable information about his son's health. Radio Free Europe is reporting a car accident, while Adam is said to be in intensive care at Chechnya's largest hospital in Grozny. The access roads to the hospital are said to be closed. However, another source reports that Adam Kadyrov has been flown to Moscow for medical treatment. Ukrainian media are also reporting on this possible scenario, noting that Adam Kadyrov's whereabouts cannot be independently verified.
Adam Kadyrov became known to the public after a video was posted online showing him beating a Ukrainian prisoner. At the time, Adam Kadyrov was only 15 years old. After the attack, he was showered with awards, including the title of "Hero of the Chechen Republic."
In April 2025, he was appointed Secretary of the Chechen Security Council, a move that further fueled speculation that he could succeed his father.
The final decision, however, will not be made by Kadyrov himself, but by Vladimir Putin.
