Iranian attack on US base in Bahrain after Hormuz water plant hit

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had struck a US military base in Bahrain with precision missiles, calling the attack a response to a reported strike by the United States on a water desalination plant on Qeshm Island, in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement published by the state-affiliated Iranian Fars news agency, the IRGC said the US base in Juffair was targeted with solid and liquid-fueled missiles.

According to the statement, the attack came after reports that a drinking water production plant in Qeshm had been hit during military operations in the region. Iranian authorities have said that the damage to the facility has affected the water supply to several surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Bahrain's Interior Ministry announced that air raid sirens have been activated in the country, urging residents to remain calm and head to safe places.

In a later update on the X network, the ministry also reported fire and material damage to a house and surrounding buildings in the capital Manama, while civil defense teams are engaged in extinguishing the flames.

What are "precision missiles"?

Precision missiles are guided weapons that use advanced navigation systems to hit a target with very high accuracy. They can be guided by satellite navigation (GPS), inertial systems or electronic sensors that correct the trajectory during flight. Thanks to these technologies, missiles can hit specific targets, such as military bases, weapons depots or strategic installations, with very small deviation from the intended point. For this reason, they are considered more effective and are widely used in modern military operations.
