United States President Donald Trump declared on Wednesday that the war with Iran will end "very soon." He stressed that there is little left to target and that the final decision to end the conflict will be entirely his. Trump added that the military operation is going very well and that the United States is well ahead of schedule.
"A little bit of this and that... Whenever I want it to end, it will end. The war is going great. We're way ahead of schedule. We've done more damage than we thought possible, even in the initial six-week period ," Trump said in a brief telephone interview with Axios.
According to recent reports, Trump has reiterated that the war could end "very soon," but has not given an exact deadline, clarifying that it will not happen within this week.
He has also warned that if Iran resumes hostile actions or tries to block the Strait of Hormuz, attacks will intensify “20 times stronger.” Meanwhile, Iranian officials have responded by saying that they, not the US, will decide when and how the conflict will end.
Global oil markets have reacted with large price fluctuations, while the Trump administration has asked Israel to stop attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure, in order to preserve opportunities for future cooperation in the oil sector after the end of the war.
