Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for an end to the war in the Middle East before the conflict escalates and engulfs the entire region.
Speaking before the Justice and Development Party (AKP) parliamentary group, Erdogan stressed that the current situation poses a great risk to regional stability and that diplomacy must take priority.
"This war must end before it worsens and sets the entire region on fire. If diplomacy is given a chance, it is entirely possible. We will patiently continue our efforts to bring the parties to the negotiating table," the Turkish president declared.
He warned that the continuation of the conflict would significantly increase the human and economic costs. According to Erdogan, further escalation of the war would affect not only the countries directly involved, but also the global economy.
"We all understand that if this senseless, anarchic and illegal war continues, the human and material losses will increase and the cost to the global economy will increase," he said.
Erdogan added that countries in the region should avoid actions that could further escalate the situation.
"As people of the region, we must not allow a war, of which we are already victims, to cause us new suffering," he stressed.
A day earlier, the Turkish president also issued a warning to Iran over actions that Ankara considers provocative. According to Erdogan, a ballistic missile launched by Iran was intercepted after entering Turkish airspace.
"Despite clear warnings, completely inappropriate and provocative actions continue, endangering Turkey's friendship with Iran," Erdogan declared.
The Turkish president's statements come at a time of heightened tension in the Middle East, where confrontations and threats of regional escalation have increased international actors' concern about stability and security in the region.
