The war in Gaza, the Spanish Prime Minister: Condemning the massacre is not a

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has taken a critical stance on Israeli attacks in Gaza, amid diplomatic disputes between Spain and Israel.

"Condemning the low-level terrorist attacks by Hamas and at the same time condemning the indiscriminate massacre of Palestinian citizens in Gaza is not a matter of political parties or ideology, it is a matter of humanity," Sanchez said during a rally in Spain .

During his visit to the Middle East last week, Sanchez angered the Israeli leadership by accusing the country of failing to abide by international humanitarian law in its siege and bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

At the end of Sanchez's visit, the Israeli government summoned the Spanish and Belgian ambassadors.

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen also accused the two European leaders of "supporting terrorism".

On the other hand, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares summoned Israel's ambassador to Spain and called Cohen's comments "unacceptable."

Cohen said Israel "will not forget who stands" with them "in these times and who supports a murderous terrorist organization that is holding more than 200 people hostage."

Later, Albares added that Spain will continue to "raise its voice" to protect innocent Palestinian civilians, condemning Hamas.

Former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said yesterday that Spain's stance towards Palestine "will be remembered as a bold step".

But not everyone in Spain agrees with this point of view.

We recall that the head of the country's conservative opposition, Alberto Nunez Feijoo, blamed Sanchez for starting the diplomatic blockade.

"Unfortunately, Spain is less reliable internationally," he told Spanish media in Madrid.

Sanchez admitted at his rally that the opposition is not necessarily with his government.

"But I will ask that they stand up for the human rights that we are defending," he told the crowd.

Sanchez stated that his goal is to convince the EU or more member states to recognize the state of Palestine. He stated during his visit to the Middle East that Madrid is ready for a unilateral move if this remains the only alternative.
