An Israeli tanker was seized by unidentified attackers off the coast of Yemen on Sunday, a private intelligence company said.
The attackers seized the tanker, the Central Park, which was operated by Zodiac Maritime, in the Gulf of Aden, intelligence firm Ambrey said.
A US Department of Defense official, who preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons, confirmed that the ship had been seized.
A statement from Zodiac Maritime called the attack a "suspected piracy incident".
The company said there were 22 multinational crew members on board and the tanker was carrying a "cargo of phosphoric acid". No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
