Israel, Hamas and the United States are close to a tentative agreement to release dozens of women and children hostages in Gaza in exchange for a five-day pause in fighting.

Under the six-page agreement, all sides pledge to freeze combat operations for at least five days, while 50 or more hostages are released in batches every 24 hours. Aerial surveillance will monitor ground movements.
But the United States said it was still working to secure an agreement between Israel and Hamas.
"We haven't reached an agreement yet, but we continue to work hard to reach one," White House National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson told X, in response to a Washington Post report that there was a tentative agreement. .
The decision to accept the deal is difficult for Israel, said a person familiar with the situation who, like the others, spoke on condition of anonymity. While there is strong domestic pressure on Netanyahu to bring the hostages home, there are also voices in Israel calling for the government not to negotiate for their release.
In public comments, Israel has remained steadfast, while acknowledging the pressure it is under.
On Friday, the head of Israel's National Security Council, Tzachi Hanegbi, told reporters that the war cabinet had unanimously agreed that a limited ceasefire could only happen after "a massive release of our hostages ... and it will be limited and short, because after that we will continue to work towards achieving our war goals".
On Saturday, Netanyahu said the offensive would continue, although he said he would allow refueling into Gaza. "Victims include more than 5,000 children and 3,300 women, while another 30,000 have been injured," the statement said.
According to the announcement, about 3,750 other people remain missing, including 1,800 children.
"The Israeli occupation has committed 1,270 massacres. 200 doctors, 22 civil defense personnel and 51 journalists were also killed in the attacks. "The Israeli aggression has forced 25 hospitals and 52 health care centers to stop working, while 55 ambulances have been targeted by Israeli forces," the statement also said.
Israel has launched relentless air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on October 7.
Thousands of buildings, including hospitals, mosques and churches, have been damaged and destroyed in the Israeli offensive.
