By order of the Special Prosecutor's Office of Montenegro, the former special chief prosecutor, Millivoje Katnic, and the former senior police officer, Zoran Llazovic, were arrested on Sunday morning, the Special Prosecutor's Office of this country confirmed for Radio Free Europe.
"Katnić and Llazović have been deprived of their freedom due to the suspicion that they have committed the criminal offenses of creating a criminal organization and misuse of official position", said the spokesman of the Special Prosecutor's Office, Vukas Radonjić. He added that the arrests were made in cooperation with the European police agency, Europol.
"Raids of their homes and facilities in Podgorica, Cetina, Budva and Bijello Pole are continuing, to find traces of the criminal offense and things that may be useful for the procedure," said prosecutor Radonjic.
He also said that Katnic and Llazovic will be sent to the Special Prosecutor's Office to be interrogated within the legal deadline. Officials of the Montenegrin Government welcomed the news of the arrest of Katnic and Llazovic.
Prime Minister Millojko Spajič said that the action of the Special Prosecutor's Office testifies to "the degree of infiltration of organized crime into the institutions of the system, created during the time of the former powers"./ REL
