Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that progress in relations between Russia and the United States remains limited due to Washington's lack of willingness to move towards their normalization.
In an interview with China Television, Peskov used the expression that “it takes two to tango ,” emphasizing that the US side is currently not showing interest in closer ties with Moscow. He added that Russia is not exerting pressure on this process and remains ready to wait for future developments.
Speaking about diplomatic efforts regarding the conflict in Ukraine, the Kremlin spokesman said that Moscow did not have exaggerated expectations for a quick or final resolution of issues related to this conflict. According to him, complex international problems take time and cannot be solved immediately.
Peskov also criticized the US administration's approach to bilateral relations. He said the US continues to link economic cooperation, investment and cultural contacts to developments in Ukraine, considering this a wrong policy.
According to him, Washington places the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine as a precondition for improving relations in other areas, while Moscow believes that the processes should develop in parallel and not depend entirely on a single political issue.
However, Peskov welcomed the US's willingness to continue to engage in efforts aimed at finding a solution to the situation in Ukraine. He praised Washington's role in supporting diplomatic processes and stressed that any contribution in this direction is considered useful.
In the interview, the Kremlin spokesman also commented on relations between Russia and China. He described them as broad and multidimensional, underlining that cooperation between the two countries continues to develop in a number of areas.
Peskov expressed his belief that the Russian-Chinese partnership will continue to strengthen in the long term and that the two countries will maintain the pace of cooperation in the coming years and decades.
His comments come as delegations from various countries, including the United States, attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which took place from June 3 to 6.
