What appeared to be just an empty logistics warehouse actually concealed an underground bunker containing the largest clandestine cigarette factory ever discovered in Italy.
The discovery was made near Cassino (Frosinone) by the Ancona Financial Police Group, together with the Frosinone financial police, in an investigation coordinated by the Cassino Public Prosecutor's Office that led to a record seizure of cigarettes, approximately 300 tons, an arrest and several charges of serious smuggling.
The investigations revealed unpaid taxes of approximately 600 million euros and illegal income estimated at approximately 130 million euros. Assets worth 53 million euros were seized.
