German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said that a war in Iran benefits no one and is to the detriment of everyone. Merz added that he is in daily contact about the war with leaders such as Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom, as well as Emmanuel Macron of France and Giorgia Meloni of Italy.
He stressed that no one consulted Germany about the war in Iran, and added that he remains unconvinced that there is a plan to bring about democratic change there.
Merz also said that the US and Europe should increase pressure on Russia together to achieve peace in Ukraine.
When the time comes, both Germany and Ukraine will be involved in negotiating security guarantees after the war for Ukraine.
Speaking in the Bundestag in the final minutes, Merz also stressed the importance of finalizing an EU-US trade deal soon.
