Iran has allowed two Indian-flagged tankers carrying liquefied natural gas to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, at a time of heightened tensions in the strategic waterway, Reuters reported, citing four sources familiar with the situation.
According to the same sources, the passage of these ships could contribute to easing the cooking gas supply crisis in India, as this type of fuel is widely used by households in the country.
Meanwhile, another tanker carrying crude oil is expected to arrive in India tomorrow. The ship is carrying oil from Saudi Arabia and passed through the Strait of Hormuz around March 1.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important energy corridors, through which a large portion of global oil and gas exports pass. Any restriction on movement in this area has a direct impact on international energy markets.
