US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Iran's new supreme leader is "wounded and most likely disfigured".

Hegseth also insisted that the US was "dealing with" Iranian attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that Iran's navy and defense industry are being destroyed, despite attacks by Tehran that effectively closed the main oil route.

During his press conference on Friday, Pete Hegseth said that the disruption of traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran closed, blocking more than 1,000 cargo ships in the process, is being addressed by the US military.

"We've dealt with it and we don't have to worry about it," he said, without giving many details.

Dan Caine, chairman of the Army Joint Chiefs of Staff, also said the US is continuing to destroy the Iranian navy.

"This means minimizing Iran's mine-laying capability and destroying their ability to attack merchant ships," he said.

This comes after Donald Trump said US forces struck 28 ships laying mines this week along the vital waterway.

"We have a plan for every option here. We are working with our interagency partners and this is not a strait that we are going to allow to remain contested or with a lack of commercial goods flow," he said.
