Amid the riots, the Assembly of Serbia is constituted, the opposition swears in

The Assembly of Serbia was constituted amid the whistles and banners of the opposition opposing the election results.

The opposition list, Serbia Against Violence, claims the December election was irregular, which the majority disputes.

The constitutive session of the Assembly of Serbia lasted about half an hour.

As a result of the tensions, the deputies of the "Serbia against violence" coalition took the oath in the corridor of the Assembly and not in the hall, as according to them they would not swear in a hall where the mandates were stolen.

Before them, this was done by the deputies of the right-wing coalition Shpresa, which consists of the New Democratic Party of Serbia and the Movement for the Restoration of the Kingdom of Serbia.

The deputy of the coalition Serbia against violence, Radomir Lazović, has assessed that the interruption of the constitutive session is a "victory" of the opposition.

In continuation of the first session, which should not be on the same day, the deputies must elect the president and vice-presidents of the Assembly, appoint the general secretary, elect the members of the working bodies, as well as the permanent members of the parliamentary delegations in international institutions.

In the extraordinary elections of December, mandates were won by 10 electoral lists, five of which are minority.

On 18 December, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) reported that the elections were marred by irregularities, misuse of public funds, media dominance by state president Aleksandar Vucic, negative campaigning and fear-mongering.
