Trump's message to authoritarian leaders everywhere
United States President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to all authoritarian leaders who, in his view, endanger the lives, safety or interests of American citizens. At the end of an extraordinary press conference following the military operation that led to the arrest of Nicolás Maduro, Trump made it clear that the Venezuelan scenario was not the only one on the table.
" Those who put American lives at risk will be punished. Sanctions against Venezuela will remain in place. The military option will also remain active. What happened to Nicolás Maduro could happen to other leaders ," he said.
The president added that Maduro's capture is a clear message that the US has regained its dominant position in the region. " We are reaffirming American power in the Western Hemisphere ," Trump said, referring to the restoration of the Monroe Doctrine, which aims to protect the region from hostile influences and regimes that undermine security.
Trump did not hesitate to mention specific names. In the direction of Colombia, he said that President Gustavo Petro "has to be careful," accusing him of direct involvement in the production and shipment of cocaine to the US. As for Cuba, he said that it is a "failed state" and its issue will soon be opened directly.
" Dictator and terrorist Nicolás Maduro has been deposed. The people of Venezuela are free again. America is safer today and the Western Hemisphere is becoming a more stable place ," Trump said.
In all his statements, the president emphasized that the intervention in Venezuela was neither diplomatic altruism nor an isolated humanitarian act. He clearly described it as a show of force, regaining control over strategic resources like oil, and reestablishing American dominance in the region.
